The Korg M1 was released in 1988 with a patch, PROG I41, known today as the famous M1 Piano, that would dominate pop music of the 80s and 90s.
The M1 piano is actually a sampling of a real piano, with numerous filters, low-frequency oscillators, envelope generators, and other digital effects to give it a particularly bright and slappy sound.
Recreation[]
The M1 is mostly available as a soundfont, but there are some softsynth options, besides that.
- Korg has the M1 available has a softsynth, as well.
- Nexus (in Ableton) has some close-sounding presets.
