Alpha Juno B86 What the aka hoover sound

The hoover is a buzzy sawtooth that originated as a patch designed by Eric Persings, who was working under the Roland Corporation, at the time.

The hoover has taken on many adaptations since its discovery, particularly finding its starting homeland in the hardcore and gabber scenes. Generally, the sound is a mix of widely-panned, washed-out bass sawtooths to maximize the fullness of the synth with one or two layered multi-voiced sawtooths (either through multiple voices or simulated with a chorus effect) that is one or two octaves higher up. The resulting droning noise is heavily distorted and often relies on a pitch bend over a fixed amount of time as the note is sustained. The resulting synth design is not generally played polyphonically.

Recreations[]

The Hoover is widely popular and has numerous recreations in several VSTs and DAWs. Usually in VSTs or instruments like 3xOSC that can be found in multiple DAWs with their own implementations, the designs are generally universal.
